Our story began nine decades ago.
When you select a Globus vacation, you’re choosing a company that's not new to religious travel. With over 90 years of experience, we’ve defined the way today's travelers experience the world. It all began on a spring day in 1928. While using his family’s rowboat to transport lumber across beautiful Lake Lugano in Switzerland, Antonio Mantegazza became inspired to share the stories and legends of his home with others. He soon began transporting tourists instead...and Globus was born. Since then, we’ve committed ourselves to continually refining our itineraries and procedures to ensure that you get the most out of your Globus vacation.
In 2004 the idea of a religious travel division for Globus was created and soon after in 2005 the company launched its very first Worldwide Religious Travel brochure for travel in 2006. Featuring 20 tours to 20 countries, Globus’ new adventure would soon capture the eyes and ears of the travel industry. In 2007 Globus conducted the first ever official study on the U.S. market for international religious travelers (Menlo Consulting Group) and then again in 2011 (TravelStyles LLC). In addition to these travel studies which showed travel trends, desired religious destinations and reasons why people take faith-based tours, Globus began conducting regional religious travel symposiums to educate travel agents and group leaders on the religious travel market. In 2013 Globus’ sister brand Cosmos officially joined the religious travel portfolio with 3 budget-friendly itineraries making the dream of an enriching and engaging faith-based vacation a reality. 2014 marked the division’s record-breaking year and we've continued to see double-digit growth year-over-year.
With 15 tours to 10 countries and an array of custom tour opportunities for groups, Globus and Cosmos Religious Vacations continue to provide travelers with inspirational journeys which offer a balance of cultural exploration mixed with religious history and the stories behind the most beloved religious sites.
The spirit of innovation continues
In 2003, both Avalon Waterways and Monograms were introduced, adding river cruising and independent travel to the expansive product offering. Today, the Globus family of brands is marketed and operated by a network of more than 32 offices around the world, serviced by a group of more than 5,000 professionals. Combined, Globus, Cosmos, Monograms and Avalon Waterways carry over 500,000 passengers a year, making the organization the leading operator of guided vacations worldwide.
