Meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers in Rome. The next day, travel to Florence, “Cradle of the Renaissance,” and enjoy a guided walking tour. Visit the Santa Croce Basilica with Michelangelo’s tomb, and the Duomo of Santa Maria del Fiore. An optional excursion to the Uffizi Gallery is available. Next is Siena, where you will attend Mass at St. Catherine’s Sanctuary, then follow your Local Guide for a walking tour that includes the Duomo and the Basilica of St. Dominic. Continue to Assisi, home of mystical St. Francis. Attend early morning Mass in the Lower Basilica, then enjoy a guided visit of the Basilica of St. Francis. Also visit the Basilica of St. Clare and the next morning, the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli and the Cappella del Transito, where the saint died in 1226. Return to Rome and attend the Papal Audience (subject to availability). Guided sightseeing includes visits to St. Peter’s Square and Basilica, and the Roman Forum and Colosseum. An optional visit to the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel is available. Attend Mass at the Basilica of St. John Lateran, followed by a guided visit of this magnificent church. Also visit the papal sanctuary of the Scala Santa (Holy Stairs), transported from Jerusalem to Rome around 326 AD by St. Helena, Emperor Constantine’s mother; St. Paul Outside the Walls, and the burial place of St. Paul the Apostle.
